The trial began on Wednesday for two Israel Defense Forces soldiers suspected of using Gazan children as human shields during Israel’s offensive in the Gaza Strip in 2008, according to Channel 10.
The soldiers, who breached the army’s rule against using civilians as human shields during war, are tried for violating IDF authority and for inappropriate conduct.
“I feel hurt and betrayed. It’s a shame it even got to this point. The government needs to understand who works for it and who works against it,” said one of the soldiers. “I was working for the government, and it stabbed a knife in my back.
The soldiers, who served as staff sergeants in the Givati Brigade during Operation Cast Lead, allegedly forced a 9-year-old Palestinian boy to open a number of bags they thought might contain explosive materials. The bags turned out to be harmless.
