Several hundred people packed Livingston and Lake Playground in West Hill Monday afternoon to score a free backpack stuffed with school supplies stamped with the slogan, “Enough,” and the phone number of Muller’s 3-month-old gun buy-back program.
The money for the supplies is part of a $70,000 grant from the Albany County District Attorney’s Office to the Albany Police Department.

Police arrest two at protesters’ house
Police said they were drawn to the gathering place for the protest group Unconventional Denver at 4301 Brighton Blvd. after spotting what Lt. J. McDonald termed “suspicious activity.”
When police arrived, they determined there was no illegal activity “but they found some items that might be used as weapons,” McDonald said.
Standing near the house, Michael Gonzalez, 20, of Seattle said he thinks the only suspicious activity was a man working on his mini bus in front of the house. The bus runs on vegetable oil.

Juan Hurtado Tapia, who the traffickers allegedly refered to as “Corrupto,” was charged Wednesday in federal court with obstruction, fraud and making false statements.

LaFollette cop Jeremy S. Cross charged with rape
JACKSBORO, Tenn. – A former LaFollette police officer faces charges of raping a woman at gunpoint during a traffic stop.
A Campbell County grand jury indicted Jeremy S. Cross last week on charges of aggravated rape, official oppression and two counts of official misconduct. The charges stem from July 5, when Cross would have been on duty, said Mike Ripley, an assistant district attorney general.

Buffalo Police batter their way into wrong house
And, that’s only the tip of the iceberg, according to Schavon Pennyamon, who lives at the mistakenly raided apartment on Sherwood Street with her husband, Terrell, and six children.
Pennyamon alleges that after wrongly breaking into her apartment, police proceeded to strike her epileptic husband in the head with the butt end of a shotgun and point shotguns at her young children before admitting their mistake and then raiding the right apartment.
She says she’s left with a broken door, an injured husband, jittery children and – what bothers her most – still no apology from police.

Illinois deputy Darryl Jenkins arrested on drug charges in Texas
GROOM, Texas – A longtime sheriff’s deputy from Illinois and his traveling companion have been arrested on drug possession charges in Texas.
Forty-seven-year-old Cook County Deputy Darryl Jenkins and 31-year-old Dorothy Edwards were arrested Sunday when they were returning to Chicago from Los Angeles. Both are from Calumet City, Illinois.
Texas authorities say they found 138 pounds of marijuana and 4,000 grams of cocaine in the couple’s vehicle during a traffic stop. The drugs have a street value of about $368,000 and were found inside luggage.

U.S. Department of Homeland Security Customs and Border Protection officer Guadalupe Garza, 64, accused of alien smuggling in exchange for sex device and pills
The indictment,which was unsealed today, charges Garza with 13 counts of conspiracy to transport aliens, transporting them within the U.S., bringing them into the U.S. and bribery.

Three Schenectady cops charged, but not with beating suspect
In a statement this afternoon, Mayor Brian U. Stratton and Public Safety Commissioner Wayne Bennett said Hafensteiner, Karaskiewicz, and Reyell will be suspended without pay, effective immediately, while Derkowski and Mallard will remain suspended with pay, pending completion of an administrative investigation into possible violations of department rules and regulations.
The charges came after months of investigation into Randolph’s accusations that one or more officers used excessive force and he was injured. Randolph’s family alleged that a half-dozen officers beat him while arresting him and after Randolph tried to use a cellphone to call his girlfriend for help.

Palm Valley police officer Ramon Martinez seeks dismissal of federal charges
Former Palm Valley police officer Ramon Martinez is seeking dismissal of the federal indictment against him, alleging that an ATF special agent reneged on assurances that he would not be arrested.
“I was shocked,” Martinez, 37, said in an affidavit of his July arrest on charges that he and former Rio Hondo police officer Armando Dueñez bought firearm parts to build assault rifles.
Martinez faces four counts of conspiring to deal in firearms without a license, dealing in firearms without a license and two counts of making a false statement in the purchase of a firearm. He is free on a $75,000 unsecured bond.

Disgraced ex-FBI agent faces trial in killing tied to mobsters
MIAMI – John J. Connolly was hundreds of miles away in 1982 when gambling executive John Callahan’s bullet-riddled body was discovered in the trunk of his Cadillac at Miami’s airport.
The admitted shooter says he never met Connolly, the disgraced ex-FBI man at the heart of the agency’s sordid dealings with Boston’s Winter Hill Gang.
Yet Connolly will stand trial on murder and conspiracy charges this month as if he had pulled the trigger himself

NYC cop Kevin Johnson is accused of hotel rape
a police officer in April when he met a group of women at a Manhattan bar. They say although he was off duty he told the women he was an officer and one of them invited him back to their hotel room.
Johnson is accused of sexually assaulting another woman as she slept in the bathroom of the hotel room.
Johnson is charged with rape and sexual abuse.

Topeka cop Jason Judd facing even more charges
30-year old Jason Judd is charged with two battery counts, in addition to two counts of intentional aggravated battery.

Chicage Cop Slawomir Plewa charged with framing woman on gun, drug charges
A Chicago Police officer has been charged with helping a Crystal Lake man frame his estranged wife by falsely arresting her on gun and drug charges and then testifying at her trial.

Roseboro NC cop Capt. Tony Surles charged
A Roseboro police captain has been arrested on a felony charge for allegedly using town funds to purchase a transmission for a vehicle not owned by the town or its police department.

Memphis cop Chancy K. Jones charged with murder
Thirty-seven-year-old patrol officer Chancy K. Jones was held on a second-degree murder charge Wednesday in the death of 31-year-old Phyllis Malone. Malone’s body was discovered Tuesday in a car parked at a fast-food restaurant in Memphis.
Police say Jones, who is married, had a sexual affair with Malone shortly before the killing. Authorities say she apparently was killed by a gunshot.

Grand Forks cops David O’Toole and Eric Straus to stand trial
GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Trials have been scheduled for two Grand Forks police officers accused of forcing a man to stand outside in frigid weather for 20 minutes with no coat, hat or gloves.

Warrants Reveal Details On CMPD Officer’s Arrest
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Eyewitness News has uncovered court documents that show that it was an anonymous tip to a social worker that led fraud detectives to a Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer, who has now been charged with exploiting his disabled father.
Officer Richard Watts Jr. was arrested on Monday. Now, three search warrants show that detectives believe Watts wrote 18 checks amounting to more than $59,000 on his disabled father’s bank account.

Deputy’s Arrest! Who’s Wrong? You Decide! Aiken County, SC
An Aiken County Sheriff’s Office deputy has been fired and charged with attacking a teenager this weekend and jailing him on trumped-up charges.
Jeffrey S. Nation, 40 is charged with assault and battery and misconduct in office, said Lt. Michael Frank, an Aiken County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson.
On Sunday, the deputy arrested Lorenzo Williams Jr., 18, of Richmond Circle in New Ellenton More.., claiming the 18-year-old tried to head butt him when he stopped him walking in the area of Green and Jackson streets.
Williams never tried to head butt the deputy, Frank said.
The incident was captured on police video and there was no such attempted attack, he added.

Taser use in man’s death broke rules, police say
The firing of a Taser stun gun that led a man to fall from a building ledge to his death on Wednesday in Brooklyn, New York, appeared to have violated departmental guidelines, the police said on Thursday.
The department said in a statement issued by the chief spokesman, Paul J. Browne, that according to policy, a Taser should not be used when a person could fall from an elevated surface.

Police Union Shirt Pokes Fun At DNC Protesters
DENVER — The Denver police union is selling T-shirts that poke fun at protesters at last month’s Democratic National Convention, but the main target isn’t laughing.
The back of the shirts reads, “We get up early to beat the crowds” and “2008 DNC,” and has a caricature of a police officer holding a baton.

Detroit Crime Lab Closed: 10% Error Rate in Firearms Cases!
1 in 10 firearms cases were found to have serious errors during an audit of the Detroit Police Crime Lab which led to its closure – there are likely innocent people in the slammer placed there with invalid evidence from that lab. Many people incorrectly assume Police crime labs are infallible but this just goes to show that nobody can screw something up the way a government agency can. Like President Ronald Reagan said, “The nine most terrifying words in the English language are: ‘I’m from the government and I’m here to help.'”

2 Montgomery WV cops accused of beating
CHARLESTON, W.Va. – A Montgomery police officer was fired and another officer was placed on administrative leave Saturday after being accused of beating a black man Friday night.
Twan Reynolds and his wife, Lauren, accuse Patrolmen Shawn Hutchinson and Matthew Leavitt of repeatedly hitting Twan Reynolds over the head with a blackjack, kicking him in the back and spraying his eyes with mace at close range.
They also say Leavitt repeatedly used a racial epithet against Twan Reynolds, and Lauren Reynolds accused Leavitt of licking her on the neck during an interrogation and saying, “Little whore, you like it like that.”

Mount Juliet, TN cop Will Cosby tries choking to get evidence that doesn’t exist.
The problems got worse for the officer. Office Crosby, the uniformed thug in question, was attempting to force the man to spit out marijuana. The man’s refusal to do so meant more choking of him in order to force him to produce the evidence. The stupid officer never considered another alternative — that the man had no marijuana and couldn’t spit it out since it wasn’t there. In fact, tests on the man proved that to be the case. NO marijuana was in his system at all. None that day, none in the past that they could find.

AZ cop Michael Phelps Pleads Guilty to Civil Rights Violation
Phelps was charged in a two-count information lodged Oct. 2, 2008, in the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona in Phoenix. In the plea agreement, Phelps admitted to having sexual relations with a female arrestee and later lied to the FBI agent during an investigation into the incident. Phelps admitted that he arrested the victim for a motor vehicle offense and threatened to incarcerate her unless she had sex with him, then released the victim after she complied.

W. Jordan UT cop Nelson Poni-Eletise Tuatagaloa, 34, charged with sexually assaulting woman
Prosecutors from the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office say the assault occurred Monday while Tuatagaloa was on duty and in uniform. The officer responded to a call involving a suicidal woman “who was sitting in a parked car in a public place,” according to charges filed in 3rd District Court

Police Witness Intimidation in Ohio Succeeds

The high school principal who wrote a letter of support for Derrick Foster, the man charged with attempted murder for wounding two police officers conducting a paramilitary-style drug raid last month, has since apologized. Pickerington High School’s Scott Reeves apologized in front of 14 police officers after the Ohio Fraternal Order of Police organized a campaign against him for daring to vouch for the character of a man who mistook raiding cops for armed robbers during the raid.

Idaho cop Gary Miller arrested for DUI
Gary Miller of the Boise Police Department was arrested by an Idaho State Police officer on April 24. Miller was charged with driving under the influence.

Atlanta cop Wayne Longe charged with sexual assault

An Atlanta police officer was indicted Friday on charges he sexually assaulted a woman in the back of his patrol car while on duty in July 2004, authorities said.

There’s something fishy in Francisville

angered at a pedestrian who got in his way, allegedly took out a golf club, chased the pedestrian down and bashed him across the arm, breaking the club in the process.
According to the Cedar Rapids Gazette, the incident Friday grew out of an argument, which started after the inspector nearly drove over the pedestrian, and ended with witnesses surrounding the car to prevent the inspector from escaping before authorities arrived.

GA Cop Captain Pat Thomas charged with aggravated assault
Seminole county deputies and the GBI arrested Thomas Friday night after he apparently followed a Donalsonville city clerk, Kim Odham, from work.  He called her on her cell phone and she pulled over on highway 39 to talk to him.
Investigators say Thomas then pressed a handgun into Odham’s back and other parts of her body several times. The case will be presented to the grand jury in October.

A Gatineau police officer shot an unarmed man three times, killing him in broad daylight yesterday.
According to the victim’s family, the police officer beat David LeClair, 35, with his billy club, pepper sprayed him and then shot him from four feet away.

Dunbar WV officer charged with battery
George Ike Rader, 50 of Grandview Drive, Dunbar, got into an argument Sunday with his wife over showing favoritism to their children, according to a criminal complaint filed in Kanawha County Magistrate Court.
During the argument he allegedly slapped her about 20 times and pressed his finger into her upper chest, West Virginia State Trooper E.B. McClung wrote in the complaint.

OK Police tell owners: ‘We’re inspecting your guns’
According to reports in the Tulsa World the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation sent letters to members of the community who were registered as owning .40-caliber handguns suggesting they voluntarily bring in their gun or guns for a test.
The individuals who were “invited” to bring their guns in but didn’t now will be included in the ongoing investigation, as well as people who were identified by former owners as having purchased that type of weapon recently, authorities said.

Oakwood OH cop Craig Ali charged with assaulting driver who hit cruiser
On May 23, Ali was working an off-duty traffic detail in a construction zone on I-271 north near the Broadway exit in Oakwood. He was sitting in his cruiser on the shoulder with his emergency lights on, according to police.
When Hiestand tried to exit the highway at 2:50 a.m. he overshot the exit, plowed through a barricade and slammed into the rear of Ali’s cruiser, said Ryan Miday, spokesman for the Cuyahoga County prosecutor’s office.
